Workshop Briefings – Day 2
G1 – Students Wellbeing
Ms. Minna Lumme, Ma of Science of Education, PhD candidate
Student wellbeing can be defined by following way: ’Wellbeing is a positive emotional state that is the result of a harmony between the sum of specific context factors on the other hand and the personal needs and expectations towards the school on the other hand’ (Engels et al 2004). Curriculum and schools as learning environment can affect positively to students’ learning, self-fulfillment, social relationships, wellbeing and mental health (Barry and Jenkins 2007, Puolakka et al 2014). National legislation, curriculum and evaluation system establish the basis for development of student wellbeing in learning environment. However, schools have an independent role as developing communities and teachers’ awareness, knowledge and attitudes need to be developed.
In this workshop, we will have an introduction to students’ wellbeing based on international research. After that we will collaborate with audience by utilizing some simple service design methods and tools. Participants can evaluate collaboratively learners’, teachers’ and school communities’ current situation, needs and strengths. After that they can prioritize most essential objectives for improvement and ideal solutions.
